Protein Balls

Updated: Mar 15, 2019

Ever wanted something sweet but didn't have anything on hand? Those protein balls are a perfect workout snack, or for when you just need something sweet in your mouth without the guilt. The variations are uncountable and you can add in whatever you like.

I made one batch with only chocolate and rolled them in cacao powder and my second batch, I made with dried dessiccated coconut, delicious!

They are also a perfect present for a sporty friend of yours...

These are gluten free, dairy free, vegan, keto, paleo, low carb and extremely tasty. Those balls are also very easy to make and they don't take more than 5 minutes of your time.

yields 6 balls

Ingredients:

  • 50 g protein powder (whatever flavor you like)

  • 2 tbsp coconut flour

  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil

  • 2+ tbsp water

*see below for variations

Method:

In a small bowl whisk together protein powder, coconut flour, coconut oil and 2 tbsp water.

Mix until until everything is well combined (it will be very thick and crumbly).

Then add one tsp water at a time and mix after each one until it reaches the desired consistency. It should still be thick but hold together if you roll/press it into balls.

Form the dough to 6 or more smaller balls and put them in the refrigerator until they are set. Keep them in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes:

Protein powder: You can use any protein powder you like; if you are vegan, just use a vegan protein powder, the amount of water will just change with different types and brands of protein powder.

Sweetener: I didn't add any sweetener, because I think that it is sweet enough with the protein powder. If you are young non-flavored you can of course add some agave-sirup, honey, stevia-drops or whatever you like.

Add-ins: You can add in anything you want, like chocolate chips, cocoa powder, peanut butter, ground cinnamon. dried fruits, nuts etc. To finish them you can also coat them in cocoa powder, almond meal, crushed roasted and salted peanuts, coconut flakes and much more.
